  1. TestNet 2.0 for Shareware: Software for Testing in School, Home, or Business

  7. Shows PCX Graphic files.  This means that a test can have graphs or pictures 
  8. associated with questions.  TestNet 2.0 will read the PCX file format but 
  9. the graphic screen must be created using another tool.

  20. Because of the computer, teachers can add power and productivity
  21. to their classrooms, even while saving time.  When we pick
  22. software, we want programs that are intuitive and easy to use. 
  23. TestNet meets these ideals. TestNet can be used for any subject:
  24. manufacturing, computer-assisted learning, literature, history,
  25. foreign languages, English, etc.
  26.  
  27. If you use TestNet with a foreign language, DOS will allow you
  28. to change your keyboard to Spanish, German, French, etc.  When
  29. you do this, the special characters peculiar to these languages
  30. are shown on the screen when you press the appropriate keys.

  32. WHAT IS TESTNET?
  33.  
  34. It (1) aids in the creation of tests or drills, and it (2)
  35. manages these tests or drills.  It aids creation by providing a
  36. special screen and word processor for convenient writing and
  37. editing.  It manages information by presenting the tests/drills:
  38. (1) on the screen or (2) by sending them to a printer.  All
  39. program choices are listed on pulldown menus.

  42. FEATURES
  43.  
  44. 1. Specialized word processor for creating tests.
  45.  
  46. 2. Tests can also be created by combining test or by selecting
  47. questions from an existing test bank.
  48.  
  49. 3. A name/student-number file can be created per class. A
  50. teacher can then require a student to type his or her number
  51. before taking the test. The student's name will be associated
  52. automatically with the test and score.
  53.  
  54. 4. An editor allows easy editing of an existing test, of
  55. student names and numbers, and a few other files used by TestNet.
  56.  
  57. 5. If the test is set for Drill Mode, questions keep returning
  58. at the end of the test until they are answered correctly.
  59.  
  60. 6. If the test is set for Test Mode, the questions do not appear
  61. again unless the student places that question on hold. To do this
  62. the student types z for the answer.

  64. 7. A tutorial response can be shown if the student's answer is
  65. wrong.

  67. 8. All missed questions can be reviewed at the end of the test.

  69. 9. All tests are scored immediately and the scores and students'
  70. names are saved.

  72. 10. Two password systems allow protection: a. for all menu
  73. choices except taking a computer test; b. for taking a computer
  74. administered test. Each test can have its own password. On a
  75. network, each teacher has his or her own password.

  77. 11. All features are quickly available with pulldown menus. Thus,
  78. it is easy to remember how to use the program.

  80. 12. Test results can be printed to the screen or to a printer.
  81. Test results can be viewed on the screen in various sorted
  82. orders.

  84. 13. All the data associated with each question can be reviewed on
  85. the screen by the teacher.

  88. true/false, multiple choice, and completion.

  90. 15. Questions can be printed with the user picking only selected

  93. 16. Questions can be printed sequentially, just as they appear in
  94. the data base, or randomly.

  96. 17. An answer sheet always accompanies each printed test.

  98. 18. Users can select either color or monochrome depending on the
  99. type of monitor.

  101. 19. An evaluation of the test gives the following information:

  103. a. how many students took the test;

  105. c. the high and low scores;

  107. e. which questions were missed how many times; 
  108. g. the standard deviation.

  110. 20. With a menu choice, the teacher can copy test files from
  111. drive a: to the appropriate hard drive directory.

  113. 21. Help screens support each general menu category.

  115. 22. On the menu, after selecting, COPY TESTS FROM STORAGE BIN,
  116. the following tasks can be performed:

  118. a. format disks in any configuration
  119.  
  120. b. sort directories according to file name, or extension, or
  121. date

  123. c. view text

  125. d. two windows list files in two directories. This allows moving,
  126. copying, or deleting files. This is a powerful new addition for
  127. network users

  129. e. shows a directory tree of the disk
  130.  
  131. 23. Tests can be configured in any combination of the following
  132. ways. These settings remain until changed by the teacher.  An
  133. easy configuration screen is self-explanatory:

  135. a. Test or drill mode t/d 
  136. b. Break key works y/n
  137. c. Capitalization required in answers y/n
  138. d. Show tutorial response y/n
  139. e. Missed questions can be reviewed y/n
  140. f. Test Can Be Taken Again and Again y/n
  141. g. A student ID is required to test y/n
  142. h. How many questions are presented for each test
  143. i. Timed test y/n  How many minutes for the test
  144. j. Exact answer required for a completion question y/n
  145. k. Test may be repeated y/n

  147. 24. For completion questions, the teacher can enter several
  148. words. If the student types any one of the words entered by the
  149. teacher, the question will be counted right if this option is
  150. turned on. This is a most useful feature.

  152. 25. A slide show helps orient new users.
  153.  
  154. 26. The documentation is always available on the pulldown menus.
  155.  
  156. 27. Programmed to be networkable. One copy of the EXE files
  157. serves all teachers, yet each teacher has his or her own
  158. passwords and tests.

  160. 28. TestNet automatically updates old tests created by earlier
  161. versions of TMaker and Test Maker.

  163. 29. TestNet will read PCX graphic files, thus allowing a
  164. teacher to use pictures when presenting a test.

  167. GETTING STARTED
  168.  
  169. The files need to be installed on a hard disk.  Use the install
  170. program to do this.  Just type INSTALL and press ENTER.  
  171. At the end of the install session, TestNet will load automatically.
  172. Later, to load TestNet, log to the appropriate directory and type
  173. TNET and press ENTER.
  174.  
  175. TestNet can be installed on any directory.  If you copy the files
  176. to a directory other than the one created during the install session,
  177. log to your new directory and type TSTART.  This allows you to tell
  178. TestNet where the EXE files are located.  Once you type TSTART, just
  179. follow the onscreen instructions.

  181. The files can also be run from a floppy disk.  If you do this, you
  182. would first need to type TSTART to tell TestNet where the needed files
  183. are located.  The information requested by TSTART is saved in a file
  184. called DRIVE.BAS.
  185.  
  186. Once you are in the program, from the Quit Menu, Press S (Slide
  187. Show Demo) to get an overview of the program. Next take the
  188. sample test.  To take a test, press T (Test). Press T again (Take
  189. Test).  Try the test, "Trivia2." 
  190.  
  191. Once this test is taken, use View and see your score. Take the
  192. test again and use the View choice again. You will easily see how
  193. the program works.
